Why Is Surajkund fair is famous?

History of Surajkund Crafts Mela

The first Surajkund Crafts Mela was organised by Haryana Tourism in 1987, and every year since then, the historic fair has been hosted. The fair was created with the intention of recognising and promoting the skills and culture of regional artisans in our nation.

The Mela is held in Surajkund, a district of Faridabad on the Delhi-Agra National Highway, which is 8 kilometres from South Delhi. King Suraj Pal of the Tomar dynasty constructed the historic reservoir known as Surajkund, also known as the “Lake of the Sun,” in the tenth century.

In 2013, the fair was upgraded to an international level, and in 2015, with Chhattisgarh acting as the theme state and Lebanon serving as the Partner Nation, a record of over 20 countries from South Asia, Africa, and Europe actively participated in the Mela.
